Starting to really tick me off. Light the Flag at night.

Howdy everyone,

First off I hate both the new mymotherlode and union democrat sights.

But something is really bugging me. This is the fact so many Governmental Agencies ignore Federal Law. This being the mandatory night time lighting of the Flag.



1. County Library
2. Post Office on S. Washington
3. Entrance to the Fair Grounds

That is three I seen too nite.

I drove by Police Department theirs is proudly and properly illuminated as required by Federal Law.

I guess next step filing a formal complaint and or requesting why they are not abiding by Federal Law?

Ahhh, someone else who actually sees these disrespectful ways of using our flag.
First though dark night the flag codes http://flagspot.net/flags/us-code.html are just that, codes and etiquette. There are no penalties for disobeying them. That is sad. I made mention once of the lack of respect I saw while watching my local Fire boys raise our flag one morning at the fire house, they acted as if I was making a joke. I mentioned the fact the flag is left up not lit at night at the post office and was told it is not important. Complain if you will but I doubt it will do any good.
Did anyone but me notice the crew the pirates took standing on the ship talking to the media while holding our flag backwards?

12. Is it proper to fly the flag of the United States at night?

The Flag Code states it is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flag staffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. The American Legion interprets " proper illumination" as a light specifically placed to illuminate the flag (preferred) or having a light source sufficient to illuminate the flag so it is recognizable as such by the casual observer.

It's the custom but not all follow. Call them and tell them. There are no real penalities for not doing so but the squeeky wheel gets the grease. IMO if you're gonna fly the flag do it the proper way or not at all.

Not only should it be lit at night, those that seem to want to show their patriotism will leave them out well past their service lives so they are torn, faded, and raggedy. Bad form.

Then there's the "patriotic" that have flags on napkins, t-shirts, drink cups, underwear, etc, which is also against basic flag etiquette.
