Question Anyone have or had kids in Summerville?

My youngest starts school today at Curtis Creek. He transferred from Sonora EL. CC is doing something different this year modeled after Summerville. They (CC) have red and white days. Everyday day M-F they have language arts on white days they will have for an example: language arts, math, science and one of their electives. On red days they will have language arts, PE, history and computers.

So....instead of having math (for example) every day they have it 2-3 days a week depending on the color of the day. This also means each class is longer. The kids have only 4 classes a day.

My child is in 7th grade. When I was in 7th and 8th we had 6 classes a day, math 1st period, science 2nd period etc. No longer is that done. Also whatever color day it is you stay with the same kids all day, not including your elective. So if you have problems with that group of kids there is no escape.

Anyone ever gone thru something similar and know about its effectiveness? I don't see how it can be better for the kids to learn by having it spaced out this way. Any thoughts?

My son went thru Summerville high and they had a similar deal. It was confusing to me but he caught on easily. The only down side I saw was his attention span suffered. I thought perhaps alot of little doses were better than a few big ones.

Both of my children have gone through Summerville with their block system. At first I wasn't sure about it but have come to love it. The kids get more time in class for reports, labs, lectures, having questions answered etc. It also allows the school to offer 8 classes instead of 6
